Webflow

Définition

Webflow CMS is a visual and flexible database conceived specifically to be integrated into the Webflow development environment. It is often qualified as a "decoupled" system because it separates the structure of the content from its visual presentation, which offers total design freedom.

Unlike traditional CMS, which constrain content within predefined templates (themes), Webflow CMS allows designers to structure the content (articles, products, fact sheets) freely for each project. This architecture places creativity and performance at the core of content management.

This approach offers several major advantages:

  • Design on Measure: It allows the creation of content structures that adapt exactly to the design needs, without being limited by rigid template constraints.
  • Performance and Security: Content is delivered via a CDN (Content Delivery Network) quickly and securely. This management minimizes security risks inherent in systems based on multiple third-party plugins, directly contributing to the improvement of Core Web Vitals (SEO).
  • Evolvability and Flexibility: Thanks to dynamic collections, it easily manages simple ads, complex product catalogs, customer reviews, excerpts, or even annual reports. The whole is integrated natively and fully with the visual development tool of Webflow.
  • Autonomy for Editors: The "Edit on Site" (In-Context Editing) tools allow marketing teams to modify the content in real-time, directly on the page, without having to navigate a complex development dashboard.

Exemple

Imagine that the car press service must publish a new model presentation page. A traditional CMS would force a uniform structure for each page. Webflow CMS allows the creation of a tailored structure with: a field for Maximum Speed, another for Battery Autonomy, and a third for the dashboard display, all without code. This capacity to create specialized and dynamic fields is an advantage for companies that need personalized and performant sites.

Outils recommandés

  • Webflow Designer (obviously): The main interface for building complex data structures without writing code.
  • Finsweet Attributes: An essential suite of extensions for adding advanced functionality (filters, search, sliders) to the Webflow CMS.
  • Relume Library: A library of structural components designed to accelerate the creation of sitemaps, wireframes, and CMS interfaces. It significantly speeds up the structuring phases (sitemaps, wireframes), while requiring a critical eye to avoid sacrificing core UX principles in favor of speed.
  • Ouvrages recommandés

  • Webflow University: The ultimate resource. Their video courses are pedagogical, free, and cover virtually all technical aspects of the CMS.
  • Flux Academy: An excellent training platform (and YouTube channel) for learning how to master the tool with a “Design-First” approach.
  • Youtube: YouTube itself is a massive source of information for learning Webflow. The platform alone can be enough if you don’t need a structured learning path.
